The streets of Bristol were a flurry of neon on Saturday night as a thousand women went back to the 80s for the St Peter's Hospice Midnight Walk
Bristol's most popular fundraising event, this year sponsored by Canada Life insurance company's Bristol office, saw hundreds of women tackle five and ten-mile night-time routes around the city.
The walk kept up the colourful precedent of last year's carnival theme as participants enthusiastically embraced the call to take it 'Back to the 80s'. Walkers donned their finest costumes celebrating the decade, creating a riot of neon colours, legwarmers, big hair and rara skirts.
Kicking off at 10.30pm from Ashton Gate Stadium, the eighth annual Midnight Walk took in the sights of Bristol including the SS Great Britain, the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the harbourside.
St Peter's Hospice events fundraiser Louisa James said: "This year we went big – and we're not just talking about the hair! Our Midnight Walk has grown year on year, and now hundreds of women take part and have a great night out while raising money for the hospice.
"We had a great time running this event - we know Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and that was clear tonight! We had 80s tunes and breakdancers to get everyone in the mood and the atmosphere was amazing."
"In the past our supporters have raised more than £100,000 from this event and it would be wonderful to reach this target again. All funds go towards caring for our patients with life-limiting illnesses both at the hospice and in the community."
As Bristol's only adult hospice, St Peter's Hospice cares for more than 2,670 patients each year, as well as supporting family members.
All services are provided free of charge for patients and their families and this care costs around £20,000 a day. In order to continue providing this vital care for the people of Bristol, St Peter's Hospice relies on donations from fundraising and money generated by the 50 hospice charity shops in Bristol and surrounding districts.
